Winemaker's Notes

Our wines are aged on their lees for over two years and are bottled without fining or filtration.

Critical Acclaim

"This is a stunning Merlot, impossibly rich. Saturated and opaque in color, it tastes fat and flashy, with masses of cherry and blackberry jam, anise, chocolate and Provençal herb flavors. Yet this opulently soft wine has a classic structure, backed up with firm tannins. This is a profound Merlot"
95 Points

"The 2004 Merlot Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,100 cases) includes a dollop of Cabernet Franc in the blend. It exhibits gorgeous notes of chocolate, espresso, plums, blackberries, and cherries. Full-bodied with terrific intensity and opulence, it makes a dramatic statement about how great Napa Merlot can be. It should drink beautifully for 15 or more years. "
94 Points

"Deep, complex nose combines plum syrup, violet, tobacco, licorice, minerals and game; there's something quite Bordeaux-like about this. Dry, broad, suave and seamless, with complicating hints of black olive and smoke. This is wonderfully full without being at all heavy. Finishes long and ripe. This will go truffley with bottle aging."

This wine shows what a great merlot can be. Seconds out of the bottle, it had incredible nose. I could have sniffed it all night. Drinking, it was full bodied and lush without being overly assertive. One of the great merlots ever.

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Merlot

Merlot(mehr-LOW) No second fiddle Merlot is coming back into its own. High popularity led to mass production, which then led to a backlash towards the variety (remember Miles in Sideways?). But passionate Merlot producers, and of course the right bank of Bordeaux, continued to produce quality versions of this grape. Merlot remains the principle grape of top chateaux in St...
