Alcohol By Volume: 14.7%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Saturated with rich, vibrant color, the generous nose exudes tantalizing aromas of Bing cherry, cassis and cola. Upon
entry, profuse flavors of raspberries, plum and baking spices intertwine with fine-grained tannins to create a supple,
chewy middle palate. The complex range of flavors in this expansive wine are heightened by its smooth, velvety texture
and its long, lingering finish.
"Both deeper in fruit and far more complex than the mainstream Merlot model predicts, this stunning effort is rife with perfectly ripe cherries and shows layers of rich oak, sweet loam and hints of cola throughout its considerable length. Its integral spine of fine-grained tannins guarantee that it will grow over four to six years, and its scant edge of stiffening, last-minute acid is but a minor distraction when measured against the richness that has gone before and the wine's future."
"Dense and racy, with blackberry and spicy espresso aromas that lead to complex, layered currant, mocha and toasty sage flavors. Tannins firm up the finish."
"The 2006 Arise (100% Merlot) possesses the most chocolate, cocoa, and charcoal notes along with lots of berry fruit, silky tannins, a lovely, medium to full-bodied, lush texture, and irresistible charm and appeal."

Learn About Blackbird Vineyards Map It
Perched to seize the day as Oak Knoll's foremost Merlot is Blackbird Vineyards, located in the heart of the district. Since 1999, this former walnut orchard, first planted with 5717 vines two years earlier, has quietly provided fruit to many of Napa's finest winemakers, for whom it has yielded astonishing reviews and stellar scorings. Purchased by entrepreneur Michael Polenske in 2003, Blackbird Vineyards is now an ultra premium label in its own right. (Fittingly, 'Merlot' is French patois for 'Little Blackbird.')
