Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The freshness of the cuvée Nicolas François Billecart develops all its aromatic complexity - aromas of white flowers mixed with subtle notes of brioche. The balance between richness and persistence is the hallmark of this accomplished wine. The perfect blend of grands crus from which it is made gives it a lovely freshness on the palate, developing a wide range of aromas.

This vintage will enhance the flavors of poultry or white meat.

Critical Acclaim

"A wine that strikes a great balance between its intense fruitiness and a pure steely character. It makes it a dry Champagne, with the richness of a great wine. It has weight, intensity and several years more aging."
95 Points

"The 2000 Brut Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart impresses for its sheer purity and focus. Nothing is out of place in this beautifully delineated, precise wine. Cool, minty notes add lift, yet the 2000 is rather reticent at this stage and appears to need further bottle age. Still, its textural finesse is impossible to miss."
94 Points

"Bright gold. Intensely perfumed scents of dried pear, nectarine, peach skin and musky flowers, with a bright mineral overtone. Deep in orchard fruit and citrus flavors but there's a weightless quality to this Champagne that's really intriguing. Very pure and precise on the finish, with the peach and floral qualities echoing. This would be superb with simple fish preparations."

An 18th Century Benedictine monk named Dom Perignon is said to be the first to blend both varietals and vintages, making good wines not only great, but also special and unique to their winemaker. Today, nearly 75% of Champagne...

Learn About Vintage

Vintage Champagne and Sparkling Wines Vintage Champagne is made in particularly good years with optimum weather and the best grape selection. Some houses, like Dom Perignon, only make vintage Champagne, so they do not produce a wine every year and have no non-vintage bottlings. What makes vintage Champagne better? Well, status for one - many vintage Champagnes are...
