winemaker's notes:
Original Wine Note:
Ideal growing conditions led to a large, exceptional quality vintage. Great core of ripe Howell Mountain fruit from Bancroft and Tre Colline with a good portion of Chabot. St. Helena Home Vineyard and Marston Ranch components highlight fruit and balance texture. Mouthwatering but brooding cherry, blackberry and sweet plum flavors balanced with substantial structure, smoky oak, Corsican mint, brown spices and cedar. Intense, dense, great acid-to-fruit balance. Built for the long haul, and then some.
2007 Tasting Note:
Another big vintage.
Berry, cassis, sweet herb character (bay leaf).
Cocoa, anise and toasted marshmallow.
Flashier on release, firm tannins, slightly tight now, but a lot of flavor intensity.
critical acclaim:
"Alcohol: 14%; Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon; Harvest Dates: September 12 to October 11. A bountiful, nearly perfect crop of consistently high quality grapes was created by flawless weather with moderate, but steady temperatures throughout the summer and beautiful weather in September and October. The result is a great vintage in both quality and quantity. The fruit came from five separate vineyards, Bancroft Ranch and Tre Colline on Howell Mountain, Chabot and St. Helena Home Vineyard, and for the first time, a small portion came from the Marston Ranch on Spring Mountain. Still densely purple-colored, the 1997 exhibits wonderful plum, blackberry, cedar, spice and subtle smoky oak notes, a gorgeously opulent texture, full-bodied power and hints of roasted espresso and white chocolate in the flavors. This beauty can be drunk now and over the next 12-15+ years. One of the all-time great Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserves, it also has the highest production to date of this cuvee."

The Wine Advocate
"Full red-ruby. Superripe aromas of plum, strawberry, tobacco and loam. Fat, thick, sweet and deep, with the wine huge weight gracefully supported by firm underlying backbone. A superripe, extremely long cabernet of great richness and depth. Built to age but showing spectacularly already."

International Wine Cellar
"Creamy blackberry, cassis, toasty oak and vanilla aromas lead off. This elegant wine is loaded with additional flavors redolent of licorice, tobacco, spice and dense berries. It's all couched in supple, velvety tannins. Long and lush at the end. "

Fabulous! I would give it a 100. It is rich and well balanced. Don't need to wait to enjoy this one. Wish I had bought more when it first came out and was much cheaper. I highly recommend it at its current price.
