winemaker's notes:

The black fruit and berry flavors in this Merlot are so rich and ripe that it could almost fool you into thinking it was a Cabernet, but there is a haunting difference --- a note of licorice or anise that identifies it immediately for me as Bancroft Ranch Merlot. A wine should have a signature, a consistency of style that identifies it while allowing for the variations that are inevitable and fascinating from vintage to vintage. In this 1995 vintage, the texture is almost chewy but supple, a characteristic I love in Merlot. The flavor is big but layered --- those dark berries, the anise backed up by some mint and cedar, and the sweet, toasty oak --- so that you want to taste it again and again to explore everything that's going on in the wine.

wine.com NOTES

An impressive wine, and even Euro-snobs have to yield to it. The fruit is extracted, but it's not so massive that it's hypertrophied like an overgrown bodybuilder. It's pleasantly soft, yet with enough structure for food. In fact, with an enormously appealing mineraly bitterness and with its substantial, but comfortably soft, tannins, it's actually structured with an almost Old World austerity. There's an appetizing herbal note with chocolate and a bit of cigar box. In fact, it's impressively proportioned, the way a big, ripe Californian wine, built to be drunk early if you wanted, should be. It plays to California's strengths and doesn't overstate the case, showing subtlety amidst its power.

A Customer - baltimore, maryland
as a fairly new wine enthusiast, i must say that on each annual pilgrimage to napa valley over the last five years i always come back to this wine. beringer's howell mountain merlot is a personal favorite. this wine's fruit is an explosion to the nose and palate. very complex, smooth and just plain yummy! worth the investment. it doesn't disappoint.

A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.

Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
