Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2007 vintage of our Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon has weight, structure and well integrated tannins. Dark berry flavors introduce the wine followed by hints of tea, cocoa and coffee. A well supported mid palate gives way to a long, soft finish.

Critical Acclaim

"A beautuful Cabernet for drinking now and over the next few years. It's dry and fine with appealing blackberry, black currant, herb and cedar flavors all the way through the finish. Excellent price for a Cab of this quality. Easy to find with 36,000 cases produced."

This wine is such a great value. If I was tasting it blind I would think it would cost at least $50 per bottle. I have been drinking Benziger Cabernet for a long, long time and I think this is the best vintage they have ever produced. I bought a full case and may buy more before the vintage is gone.

Very good value. A nice smooth everyday cab. We conmpared it to WS 2011 #2 wine and thought it held up well, at least until the KH opened up after decanting.

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
