Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Benanti Pietramarina Etna Bianco is a pale yellowish color with bright greenish tints. The aromas are intense, rich, delicate and fruity (think ripe apple). The taste is dry with a pleasant acidity and nice aromatic persistence.

Critical Acclaim

"From 80-year-old bush vines, this carricante grows in the sandy, volcanic soils of Milo, on the eastern side of Etna at 3,100 feet. The wine is so obsessively mineral that it’s a little stinky when first poured, though it immediately shows textural refinement and silken layers of flavor. Scents of honey laced with fresh cream and pear gain depth as the wine develops with air, building toward spiced quince and kumquat while it retains mouthwatering freshness. An elegant white with dimension and energy in the glass, this will benefit as much from further bottle age as it will reward decanting. Serve with a whole roasted sea bass stuffed with rosemary. "
