winemaker's notes:
The 2006 Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry weaves five classic Bordeaux varietals--Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec--into an elegant, beautifully balanced wine. First crafted in 1990 as a complement to the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the Reserve Tapestry laces blueberry and Bing cherry through the rich core of blackberry and dark currant, accented by cocoa and toast. In the mouth, the ripe fruit fans out, reaching all points of the palate, and then delves into a long, persistent finish. The tapestry of aromas and flavors apparent in this wine come from handcrafted care from vine to glass. Pre-fermentation maceration, gentle punch-downs and in-barrel malolactic fermentation helped build the layers and nuances of this multidimensional wine. Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor then blended the lots into a well-integrated wine that astutely balances intensity and approachability.
critical acclaim:
"The 2006 Proprietary Red Wine Tapestry Reserve (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Flowery, licorice-infused, cassis notes intermixed with forest floor and lead pencil shavings are followed by a layered, impressively built wine with real opulence, lots of red and black fruits, low acidity, and lush tannin. It should drink well for 15+ years. "

The Wine Advocate
"A terrific wine, delicious and classic in structure. Shows the beauty of the blend, which consists of five Bordeaux varieties. Rich in cherries, blackberries, red currants, chocolate, anise and sandalwood, it has a gentle, elegant mouthfeel, and is thoroughly dry. "

Wine Enthusiast
"Good deep red. Expressive, claret-like aromas of strawberry, raspberry, currant, cherry, tobacco, menthol and spices. Supple and sweet, with good floral lift to the berry and tobacco flavors. Firm acids and rather suave tannins will not get in the way of enjoying this wine now. Winemaker Stambor is doing a lot of the malolactic fermentation of this wine in barrel, and does some stirring of the lees for the cabernet lots."

This was a good wine!! still quite young at first taste. I found this wine to have all the aspects of a $100 bottle of Napa. This is a good wine now, but I would lay this down for a few years before enjoying.
This is my new favorite wine! Full mouth feel with fruit forward and a smooth long finish with enough tannins to get you to stop and take notice. This will be a staple on our wine rack. This is what a red blend should taste like. Drink it alone or with meat, pasta or pizza.
I would gladly purchase this wine again. Amazing quality for the price from a classic Napa producer.
