Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chardonnay 2001
from Bordeaux, France
A bright, pale straw color, the wine has a refined, elegant nose which displays lovely floral notes enhanced by a hint of toast, opening out with airing to reveal citrus and ripe tropical fruit aromas. Round and rich on the palate, it has substance and consistency, expressing characteristic Chardonnay flavors which, generous and full of charm, persist in a flavorsome and well-balanced finish.
This pays d'oc wine comes from the region of Limoux, near Carcassonne, one of the oldest vineyards of Languedoc-Roussillon. The area is a mosaic of very different soils – shale, granite, limestone, sandstone – in stony terraces or gravelly ridges of red clay.
