Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2003
Sauvignon Blanc
from Marlborough, New Zealand
winemaker's notes:
This vintage was another classic with very low yields. This resulted in fruit displaying the classic intense flavours and aromas which characterise Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, enabling us to continue our style of rich ripe flavours, moderate acidity and excellent length of flavour.
Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is an ideal aperitif wine, and can also be enjoyed with pasta, seafood, white meats and vegetarian dishes.
Try it with a seafood and asparagus risotto.

This wine was really quite surprising, as I didn't expect to like it (a Sauvingon Blanc) so much! Spectacular melony / pineaple notes at the end - really quite refreshing. Drinking it icy cold brings out the flavors best.

The first time I bought it, I was pleasantly surprised. It had a nice melon after taste compared to that mineral/fat pre-natal vitamin after taste of some California Sauvignon Blancs. But the second time it tasted bitter. The night before that I had tried Matua Valley, also from New Zealand. Maybe it was the food? Maybe Matua Valley is just more pleasant. I don't intend to purchase Babich again, but will continue to explore New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs because they ARE better than California.

It was summertime I was looking for a wine that would be light and refreshing. My local wine retailer recommended this wine. He said "wait till you taste this wine the fruit flavors will explode on your tongue." He was right! DELICIOUS
