The fruit for this wine came in beautifully ripe and black under the crusher at Barossa Vintners in Tanunda (Barossa Valley) where Ben Glaetzer has made all of our ‘Sheeraz' to date. Our hopes have been very high for this wine since that time.
Each vintage we add mainly new French and a small portion of new American Oak to supplement second and third year oak. This certainly helps bind and meld the full-on flavours into quite a complex mouthful. It has a rich extract and a smooth, fruit sweet centre that is packed with black fruit. The concentration is fuelled by a healthy 14.5% alc/vol that sits comfortably within the framework.
We suggest that the Sheeraz is breathed and preferably decanted to allow it to open up, soften and better show it's wild fennel/liquorice and spice highlights.
