Atalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon
from Napa Valley, California
winemaker's notes:
The dense purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses abundant quantities of black currant fruit, a liqueur-like aspect to its flavor intensity, sweet tannin, and a long, velvety-textured, juicy finish. Like many top 2001s, it will be approachable upon release, and age well for 10-15 years.

nose of crisp rich black fruit with some cigarbox aroma finishing with silky smooth tannin ...a little acidic but still very easy to drink

My wife and I purchased this bottle of wine to ring in 2006 at home. We enjoy Napa reds very much and heard this one was a knockout! It was good, but the description was correct in that it had a very liquer-like aspect that we weren't prepared for at first. After our taste buds settled in it lived up to it's reputation, very complex and nice finish. Not for those that enjoy fruit forward reds.

While on vacation in Napa, we visited the Cardinale winery and tasted several of their wines. The 2001 "Atalon" Cabernet knocked our socks off! We left with a case. It is 97% Cabernet and 3% Merlot with the fruit coming from To Kalon (Oakville), Veeder Peak (Mt. Veeder), Stagecoach Vineyard (Atlas Peak), JJ Cohn Vineyard (Rutherford), and Keyes Vineyard, (Howell Mtn).
It is rated 90 to 92 Points in the wine advocate and should age well for 10-15 years. WE LOVE IT! M. & C. Ronnie
