Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Intensely red with violet tones, with earthy, forest floor and bittersweet chocolate aromas. Elegant and smooth with black cherry liqueur on the edges and a touch of vanilla from the oak. It is well-structured but graces the palate with soft, sweet tannins and good acidity on a closely-knit frame. Made with 100% Malbec.

Critical Acclaim

"Give this time in the glass and its aromas of red fruit develop complex notes of violets and leather. The flavors are powerful, with enough acidity and firm tannins to sustain it. It leaves a smooth sweetness in the finish, inviting another sip. This malbec comes from the highest elevations in Agrelo, rising to 3,600 feet, and is a serious candidate for the cellar."

Tried this to see what a high-score Malbec could offer, and it exceeded my expectations. Very rich, although it needs time to open up. If you enjoy high-end Cabs, this makes a great change of pace. Malbecs can be somewhat peppery and less smooth than Cabs, but this was a complex and thoroughly enjoyable wine.

Smooth and very drinkable. Does not overpower but is not weak either. I generally like Malbecs and this one does not disappoint. It is $4/bottle less here than at the store.

Learn About Anoro

Añoro (pronounced ‘ahn-your-o’) is a unique word with no direct translation into English. In Spanish it often refers to the act of reminiscing or dreaming of a special time in one’s past. For us, it means creating something that we once only dreamed of – the wines of Añoro.

Learn About Argentina

(ahr-jen-TEE-nah) Now fifth in the world for wine production, Argentina is catching up in the quality wine sector. A long time wine producer, Argentina used to make wine in order to drink it, not export it. And so the wines produced were quaffable and rustic and made for the local's everyday dinner. Yet it's hard not to get caught up in the wine market of the world and some...
