Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Wine Description ÀN/2 is a perfect introduction to the wines of Mallorca. This unique red is made from old vine Callet, Mantonegre, Fogoneu and Syrah fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete— macerated only briefly to retain the freshness and flavors of the fully ripe fruit. Aged for just over one year in a combination of French barriques and American oak, of which about one third is new.

Tasting Notes Deep ruby red in color, ÀN/2 has complex aromas of savory spices, wild raspberries, dark cherry fruit and a hint of violets and smokiness. On the palate the wine is silky and elegant with intense flavors of mature fruit. Well balanced with a long finish, this wine pairs excellently with stuffed pork chops, rabbit ravioli or roast leg of duck.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2008 AN/2 is made up of 65% Callet, 20% Mantonegre and Fogoneu, and 15% Syrah aged for 13 months in 35% new French oak. Wood smoke, earth notes, cinnamon, clove, and black cherry aromas are followed by a vibrant, sweetly fruited, racy wine with good intensity and length. Drink this outstanding effort over the next 5-6 years.

Anima Negra, located in the Balearic Islands southeast of Mallorca, employs predominantly indigenous varieties to turn out wines unique to their terroir. "
