Altos las Hormigas Malbec 1999
Malbec
from Argentina, South America
winemaker's notes:
This wine is the exciting result of our encounter with the great land of Argentina, whose very light and space seem to reproduce perfectly in all its fruits a remarkable character and vitality. The ant (hormiga) is one of the few creatures who can survive in our vineyard's hard-to-work soils.

Robert Parker rated the 1997 vintage 89, and most sources indicate that 1999 was a superior vintage in Argentina.
This enticing Mendoza red displays a seductive array of bright raspberry and vanilla aromas. It delivers on this promise, flooding the palate with ripe, concentrated fruit flavors, with nuances of spice and leather lending added complexity and interest. The finish shows a fine balance between modestly grippy tannins and bright, refreshing acidity, supporting berry and spice flavors for a satisfying length of time. This is an excellent match for heartier fare - stews, ragouts, or pasta drenched with tangy marinara. Best of all is the price - less than $10.00!
