Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Ruby red, intense, limpid, brilliant. Bouquet is fine, persistent, elegant and pleasantly fruity and fragrant. Structured flavor with a harmonic and velvety texture, resulting with a pleasant vinous finish.

Pair with grilled meat, stews with poultry and game, medium aged cheese.

100% Sangiovese

Critical Acclaim

"Altesino's 2009 Rosso di Montalcino is a pretty, soft wine laced with dried red cherries, flowers and hints of tobacco. The fruit shows a lovely, open radiance, while the mid-weight structure suggests the wine is best enjoyed over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. "

For a stint in the 70s and 80s, wines labeled Chianti contained cheap red wine packaged in a straw casked bottle, most popular for the candle holder it would become. But no more. Sangiovese re...
