This is the first estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon bottling from Joseph Phelps. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1460-litre vats that allow the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of Cabernet is sometimes used to improve structure, the focal point for St Henri remains Shiraz.

Chteaux Bellevue is barrel-aged for six months on its lees (100% new oak)for a total of approximately 24 months. Final blending takes place justbefore bottling, and the wine is neither fined nor filtered.

The wine is fermented the traditional way and aged in oak barrels, half of which are new each year. Balestard la Tonnelle is a full-bodied and exquisitely elegant wine, one of the finest grands crus in Saint-milion.
