2008 Reserve Red Wine

The 2004 vintage of this wine was ranked #9 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 2007Intensely fragrant with aromas of crme de cassis, graphite and notes of lavender and bay. Rich flavors of blackberry and huckleberry merge with earthiness and minerality. Tannins are generous and well-developed.

The 2008 wines are reminiscent of the wonderful 2000 vintage; great purity of fruit and structure. Critics and fans alike agree that these wines may someday be counted as some of the best made in Oregon.

81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot The color is a pretty garnet. On the nose are black cherries with accents of vanilla and paprika. On the palate are concentrated layers of dark fruit- black cherries and raspberries- with velvety tannins.

2008 was another drought year in Napa Valley, making the vines relatively less vigorous withsmaller berries. Intense aromas of black olive, truffles, and bakers chocolate are followed by even richer flavors of the same, with some plum notes added in for good measure. The mouthfeel is so rich and round you might think the olive flavors come from olive oil in the wine. The length is hard to surpass even at three times the price.

A spicy bouquet of roses and cherries greets the nose, with flavors of black cherry, tangy cranberry and brown spices to follow. The long spicy finish is accented by a hint of toasty oak from 16 months aging in French oak barrels. We anticipate this wine will continue to age gracefully in the cellar for up to 10 years.
